About Laura

 

Laura is an Okie, born and bred; her family roots run deep into Oklahoma soil. Laura grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma where she started first grade at Will Rogers Elementary, attending Stillwater Public Schools through her senior year, graduating in 1989. She attended Oklahoma State University, New Life Bible College in Cleveland, TN, Tulsa Community College, earning an Associates of Arts Education, Oklahoma State University, earning a Bachelor of Science, and Northeastern State University where she earned a Master in Education.

Family Matters

She married Tom Steele in 1993; they have two beautiful Children, Logan A. Steele, 19, a sophomore at Oklahoma State University pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. Taylor D. Steele, 16 a Junior at Jenks High School. She has served as an officer in FFA for the past two years, she has shown a lamb and a goat during the last two show seasons, she is a member of the award winning JHS Vet Science team, and has recently been inducted to National Honor Society. Taylor plans to attend college at Oklahoma State University and study Vet Med. Tom Steele is an Electrical Engineer, he has worked in research and development with oil & gas industry his entire career. He is currently employed with Ametek for over 10 years, in Broken Arrow.

Leadership / Mentor  / Coach

For the past thirteen years, Laura has been a teacher at Jenks Middle School, in Jenks, OK. She has taught 7th & 8th grade Language Arts, 8th grade Social Studies, as well as two years previous experience at Jenks Central Middle School teaching 8th grade Civics. She has been a Cheer/Pom Coach, a volleyball coach, and is currently the High School Debate Team Assistant Coach. Over the years she has been Team Leader, Department Chair, Online Testing Coordinator, Member of the Leadership Team, Teacher Representative for two textbook adoptions, Language Arts and Social Studies, Mentor Teacher for new teachers, National Junior Honor Society advisor, and an AVID site team member. She has been a trusted leader in her building and within the district. 

Community Service

As the advisor of National Junior Honor Society, Laura has worked with various organizations in the community providing service hour experiences for NJHS members as well as providing fundraisers to raise awareness and funds to donate. Feed the Children, Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, Make A Wish, Jenks Community food Bank to name a few. She also encourages her NJHS members to volunteer at school through school service events each year.
